From Principal Brock....

Happy Friday, Mustang Families!

It has been a fantastic first two days of school, and I could not be prouder of our students!

We kicked off the school year with an incredible assembly put on by our ASB leadership. It is so powerful to watch our students lead, and I was blown away by our school's ability to host an assembly entirely student-led on day one! The first few days our often spent building routines. Our students have done a wonderful job adjusting to new schedules and classroom expectations. In the coming days all of our students will learn about organizational tools like binders and planners as we roll those out early next week.

Our Theme this year is “Built to Lead”  We aim to provide every student with skill and  opportunities to lead in various capacities. This includes daily opportunities to be leaders in the classrooms, acting as positive role models daily during lunch, or participating in service projects or school assemblies, such as those for Veterans Day and MLK Day. I can tell that we have many students who are going to grow into these roles during out time together this school year.

Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to the wonderful year ahead of us!

YMCA THRIVE program information

Hello and welcome to the 2026-2027 school year and year two of the South Sound YMCA THRIVE Middle School Program!

Our program provides free afterschool enrichment and community-building activities for middle school aged youth thanks to a partnership between the South Sound YMCA and Olympia School District, with additional funding from the Balmer Group. Last year, we had workshops on 97 of the 180 school days, and we are ready to shoot for even more!

Here is some important information regarding THRIVE this school year!
  • Registration for 2026-2027 is open; all you need is a free YMCA "Program" account! Sign up here (Instructions attached)
  • Students sign themselves up for the individual workshops that interest them during lunch, passing periods, etc. but this list streamlines that process and ensures your family doesn't miss important updates!
  • **Parents/guardians are able to adjust workshop signups at any time online using their free YMCA account**
  • New this year! THRIVE will be hosting a limited number of activities at Jefferson Middle School in addition to Thurgood Marshall Middle School
  • On our registration page, you will see TWO locations — make sure you register for the right one!
  • The program remains OPEN to all middle schoolers in the area; feel free to invite your non-TMMS friends to register as well (must provide own transportation)
  • We will announce and open signups for September and October workshops after school starts; stay tuned for more updates!
