School Improvement Plan
OLYMPIA SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN (S.I.P.) 2012-2013
SCHOOL: MARSHALL MIDDLE SCHOOL
Marshall Middle School serves approximately 390 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 with feeder schools primarily Hansen and McLane. Marshall houses two district programs. MAP (Marshall’s Alternative Program) is a multi-age program with a high level of parental involvement and is accessed through a lottery process. SOS (Social Organizational Skills) is a high functioning autism and Asperger syndrome program with the goal of integrating students into the regular program.
It is Marshall Middle School’s mission to provide a safe, caring environment in which individuals are challenged to achieve personal and academic excellence. In an increasingly diverse population, Marshall prides itself on celebrating individuality, hard work, respect, and success.
Marshall’s staff met in August of 2012 to develop a plan for School Wide Positive Behavioral Supports (SWPBS) with the focus on explicitly teaching common area and classroom expectations and developing system wide supports, recognition, and rewards.
Marshall continues its focus on the three areas in which we have direct control (instruction, classroom environment, and curriculum) and have made three collective commitments:
- Effective teaching in every classroom
- Effective support systems for every student
- Effective systems of individual student feedback
