INTRODUCTION:
Marshall middle school teachers and paraeducators worked collaboratively for three days in August of 2008 to develop the components of this School Improvement Plan. The staff refined Marshall’s mission statement, developed a theme for the year, and using MAP and WASL data, identified strengths as well as areas of focus.
It is the Mission of Marshall Middle School community to provide a safe, caring environment in which individuals are challenged to achieve personal and academic excellence. Our theme this year is “Marshall, Be a part of IT.” Marshall has restructured the leadership team and collaborative model to increase the focus on instruction and student learning.
General Goals
1. We will increase the academic skills and achievement of every student, with a school-wide emphasis on academic rigor.
2. We will continue to strengthen and enhance the connections between the school and the homes of our students
3. We will offer ongoing and high quality professional development opportunities
4. We will maintain an organizational structure that features two-teacher academic teams, large blocks of instructional time, and purposeful focus on building positive teacher-student relationships that will be of benefit in both the academic and social growth of our students.
5. The Leadership Team will grow to include a parent representative as well as a paraeducator and will continue to guide Marshall’s efforts in improved student learning.
6. We will provide health curriculum to all grades and rotate enrichment at each grade level to extend the learning opportunities to more students.
7. We will continue to foster a positive school climate and provide opportunities for students to discuss ways and become involved with Marshall through the school wide theme of “Marshall, Be a Part of IT.
